Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF data?

Hidden information saved inside photos: camera and phone model, date and time, settings, and often the exact GPS location where the photo was taken.

Why remove the GPS location?

If you share an original photo, others may be able to see where you live or work. Removing metadata protects your privacy.

Does removing EXIF reduce quality?

No for JPG and PNG: the metadata is cut out without re-compressing the image. Other formats are re-saved at high quality.

Will my photo rotate after cleaning?

No. If a photo relies on EXIF rotation, it's rotated properly before the data is removed, so it still looks right.

Don't WhatsApp and Instagram remove this already?

Many social apps strip location, but sending as a document, email or cloud link usually keeps it. Cleaning first is the safe choice.
