Frequently asked questions
Are these passwords safe to use?
Yes. They are created in your browser using the Web Crypto API, a cryptographically secure random generator. Passwords are never sent or stored anywhere.
How long should my password be?
At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts like email and banking. Longer passwords are much harder to crack.
What does the strength meter show?
It estimates entropy in bits, a measure of how many guesses an attacker would need. Above 80 bits is very strong; above 100 bits is excellent.
Why avoid similar-looking characters?
Characters like l, 1, I, O and 0 are easy to confuse when reading or typing a password by hand. Excluding them makes passwords easier to copy manually.
How should I remember so many passwords?
Use a password manager. Never reuse the same password on different websites, and turn on two-factor authentication wherever you can.
