Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (or HEIF) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It saves space, but many Windows PCs, websites and government forms don't accept it, so converting to JPG makes photos work everywhere.

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format; only the file extension is spelled differently.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your photos never leave your device. The converter (about 3 MB) loads the first time you use it.

Should I choose JPG or PNG?

JPG gives much smaller files and is best for photos and online forms. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, but files are several times larger.

Is location and camera data kept?

No. Converted photos don't include EXIF data such as GPS location, which is safer for sharing. The photo is still shown the right way up.
