How to Resize Your Photo and Signature to 20 KB or 50 KB for Exam Forms

Almost every online application — SSC, banking, railway, state PSC, university admissions — asks you to upload a photo and signature within a strict size limit, for example "photo 20–50 KB, signature 10–20 KB". If your file is even 1 KB too big, the form rejects it. Here is how to get it right the first time.
1. Read the exact requirement
Open the official notification and note down three things for both the photo and the signature:
- File size in KB (for example 20–50 KB)
- Dimensions in pixels, if given (for example 200 × 230 px)
- Format — almost always JPG/JPEG
Photo requirements commonly fall in the 20–50 KB range and signatures in the 10–20 KB range, but they differ between exams and change from year to year, so always follow your own notification.
2. Take a good photo
- Plain white or light background, face clearly visible, both ears showing if required
- Even light from the front — no shadow on the face or background
- Hold the phone at eye level and keep the face centred
- Many exams want a recent photo, sometimes with the date and name written below it — check the notification
3. Resize the photo
- Open the Exam Photo Resizer.
- Choose your photo and pick a preset (IBPS, SSC, UPSC and more) or choose Custom size and enter the width, height and KB range yourself.
- The photo is centre-cropped to the exact size, so first crop it with Crop Image if your face is not in the middle.
- Download the JPG and check the size shown.
If the form only gives a KB limit and no pixel size, use Resize Image to KB — enter the target size and the tool finds the highest quality that fits.
4. Prepare the signature
- Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper. Make it a little bigger than usual.
- Take a photo from directly above in good light.
- Open the Signature Resizer. It auto-crops to the ink, turns the paper pure white and resizes to the required KB and pixels.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| File is under the minimum size (e.g. 15 KB when 20 KB is required) | Increase the quality or dimensions slightly and export again |
| Photo looks stretched | Keep the aspect ratio; crop first, then resize |
| Signature is too faint | Sign again with a darker pen, or increase contrast before resizing |
| Upload says "invalid format" | Make sure the file ends in .jpg, not .png or .heic |
Is it safe?
HQ8T's image tools run entirely in your browser — your photo and signature are never uploaded to any server. That matters for documents linked to your identity.
