How do I simplify a ratio?

Divide every part by their HCF. 12:18 has HCF 6, so it simplifies to 2:3.

How is the missing value in a proportion found?

For A : B = C : x, cross-multiply: x = B × C ÷ A. For 3 : 4 = 15 : x, x = 4 × 15 ÷ 3 = 20.

How do I divide money in a ratio?

Add the ratio parts, then each share is amount × part ÷ total. ₹10,000 in 2:3:5 gives ₹2,000, ₹3,000 and ₹5,000.

Can ratios have decimals?

Yes. 1.5:2.25 is scaled to whole numbers first and simplifies to 2:3.

Can I use more than two parts?
