Frequently asked questions

How strong is the protection?

Files are encrypted with AES-256, the strongest standard PDF encryption. Use a long password that isn't easy to guess.

Is my PDF or password uploaded?

No. Encryption happens inside your browser, so neither the file nor the password is sent anywhere.

What if I forget the password?

It can't be recovered, by us or anyone else. Keep a copy of the original file or write the password down safely.

Will the PDF open on phones and in Adobe Reader?

Yes. Any modern PDF reader, including Chrome, Adobe Reader and phone apps, will ask for the password and open it.

Can I remove the password later?

Yes. Use our Unlock PDF tool and enter the password to save a copy without it.
