Frequently asked questions

What is the PPF interest rate?

The government reviews the PPF rate every quarter. It has been 7.1% per year for several years; check the latest rate and update it in the calculator if it has changed.

How is PPF interest calculated?

Interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month and added once a year. This calculator assumes you deposit before 5 April each year, which earns the most interest.

What are the PPF deposit limits?

You must deposit at least ₹500 and at most ₹1,50,000 in a financial year.

Can I extend PPF after 15 years?

Yes. After maturity you can extend the account in blocks of 5 years, with or without new deposits.

Is PPF tax-free?

PPF has EEE status under the old tax regime: deposits qualify for Section 80C, and both interest and maturity amount are tax-free.
