Frequently asked questions

Which year's rules does this use?

FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27): new-regime slabs up to 30%, ₹75,000 standard deduction and a rebate that makes income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free (₹12.75 lakh for salaried people). Check the latest Budget for later years.

Old or new regime — which is better?

The new regime has lower rates but almost no deductions. The old regime can be better if you claim large deductions such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest. The calculator shows both side by side.

What is the 87A rebate?

A tax rebate for smaller incomes: up to ₹60,000 in the new regime (taxable income up to ₹12 lakh) and ₹12,500 in the old regime (up to ₹5 lakh). Just above ₹12 lakh, marginal relief limits your tax to the income above ₹12 lakh.

Are cess and surcharge included?

Yes. 4% health and education cess is added, and surcharge applies above ₹50 lakh (capped at 25% in the new regime), with marginal relief.

Is this my final tax?

It's an estimate for salary and regular income. Capital gains, special-rate income, and some allowances are not included. Use it to plan, and confirm with a CA or the income tax portal when filing.
