Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the tape-measure method?

Usually within 3–4% of lab methods if you measure carefully. Measure twice and use the average.

What is a healthy body fat percentage?

Roughly 14–24% for men and 21–31% for women. Athletes are lower.

Where exactly should I measure my waist?

Men: at the navel. Women: at the narrowest point of the waist. Keep the tape level and don't pull in your stomach.

Is body fat better than BMI?

It says more about health than BMI, because BMI can't tell muscle from fat. Use both together.
