Resume Format for Freshers in India: Sections, Examples and Tips
2 Oct 2026 · 2 min read · Business tools
Recruiters often spend less than a minute on a fresher's resume. A clean one-page resume that highlights the right things gets you to the interview.
The best section order for freshers
- Name and contact — phone, email, city, LinkedIn or GitHub
- Profile summary — 2–3 lines on who you are and what role you want
- Education — degree, college, year and CGPA/percentage
- Projects — your strongest section when you have no work experience
- Internships / training — if any
- Skills — tools and technologies, not "hard working"
- Achievements and certifications
- Languages
Writing good points
Start each point with an action verb and add a number wherever you can:
- ✗ "Worked on a website project"
- ✓ "Built a college event website in React used by 1,200 students"
ATS tips
Many companies filter resumes with software (an Applicant Tracking System) before a person sees them.
- Use a single-column layout with normal headings like "Education" and "Skills"
- Keep text as real text, not an image
- Use keywords from the job description, such as the exact tool names
- Save as PDF unless the company asks for Word
Photo or no photo?
Many Indian employers accept a photo, and some government and private jobs ask for one. For jobs abroad, and many multinational companies, leave it out.
Common mistakes
- Two or more pages for a fresher — keep it to one
- Unprofessional email IDs — create a simple firstname.lastname address
- Listing every school subject — only include what matters for the job
- Spelling mistakes — read it aloud once before sending
