Frequently asked questions

Does it count Hindi and other languages?

Yes. Words are detected using your browser's language rules, so Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and other scripts are counted correctly, along with emoji.

What's the difference between characters with and without spaces?

“Characters” counts everything including spaces. “Without spaces” skips spaces, tabs and line breaks, which some forms and assignments ask for.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute and speaking time about 130 words per minute.

Is my text saved or uploaded?

No. Everything is counted in your browser. Your text is never sent anywhere.

What are the character limits for social media?

X (Twitter) allows 280 characters, Instagram captions 2,200 and a meta description should stay under about 155. The counter shows how close you are.
