Frequently asked questions

What changed in Budget 2025?

Several limits went up from April 2025: for example professional fees to ₹50,000, rent to ₹50,000 a month, bank interest to ₹50,000 (₹1 lakh for seniors) and commission to ₹20,000.

What if the payee has no PAN?

TDS is deducted at twice the normal rate or 20%, whichever is higher (5% for 194Q).

Is TDS the final tax?

No. It's an advance on the payee's income tax. They can claim it in their return and get a refund if extra was deducted.

When must TDS be deposited?

By the 7th of the next month (30 April for March deductions), with quarterly TDS returns filed on time.
