Frequently asked questions

How is FD maturity calculated?

Maturity = P × (1 + r/n)^(n × t), where P is the deposit, r the yearly rate, n the number of compounding periods per year and t the time in years.

Do banks compound FD interest quarterly?

Most Indian banks compound cumulative FDs quarterly, which is the default here. Check your bank's terms and change the compounding option if needed.

Is FD interest taxable?

Yes. FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. Banks may also deduct TDS. Tax is not included in this result.

What about senior citizen rates?

Banks usually offer senior citizens a higher rate, often 0.25–0.50% more. Just enter that higher rate.

Does this work for monthly payout FDs?

This calculator is for cumulative FDs, where interest is added back to the deposit. Payout FDs pay interest out instead, so there's no compounding.
