Frequently asked questions

Why do I need to edit the slab rates?

Every state and electricity board has different slabs and prices, which change most years. The defaults are just an example; copy the rates printed on your bill for an accurate estimate.

What is one unit of electricity?

One unit = 1 kWh, the energy used by a 1,000-watt appliance running for one hour.

How do slabs work?

Each slab's rate applies only to units in that range. With 0–100 at ₹3 and 101–200 at ₹5, using 150 units costs 100 × ₹3 + 50 × ₹5.

How do I find how much my AC costs?

Use the appliance section: an AC using 1,500 W for 8 hours a day uses 1.5 × 8 × 30 = 360 units a month.

Are subsidies included?

Add a negative number in “Fixed charges” to subtract a subsidy, or set a slab's rate to 0 for free units.
