Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?

They're different ways to write the same color. HEX (#4f46e5) and RGB (79, 70, 229) give red, green and blue amounts. HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness, which is easier to adjust.

When should I use CMYK?

CMYK is for printing. Screen colors (RGB) can look different in print, so these CMYK values are an approximation. Check with your printer for exact results.

What does the contrast ratio mean?

It measures how readable text is on the color. WCAG recommends at least 4.5:1 for normal text (AA) and 7:1 for the best readability (AAA).

Can I type color names?

Use HEX, RGB or HSL values. The color picker helps you choose visually.

What are tints and shades?

Tints are lighter versions (mixed with white) and shades are darker versions (mixed with black). Click one to use it.
